Karlsplatz

Karlsplatz is defined by a central bronze equestrian statue of Emperor Wilhelm the First, flanked by two stone columns and large stone lions. Named for Duke Karl Eugen, who ruled Württemberg from seventeen forty-four to seventeen ninety-three, the square sits just to the east of the Altes Schloss, or Old Castle. It is a quiet, tree-lined space that serves as an open-air stage for city life.
