Staatsgalerie Stuttgart

The Staatsgalerie Stuttgart is a museum complex defined by the contrast between its original nineteenth-century home and the vibrant, postmodern addition known as the Neue Staatsgalerie. The older building, a neoclassical structure designed by Gottlob Georg Barth, opened in eighteen forty-three as the Museum of Fine Arts. It sits adjacent to the later extension, which was built between nineteen seventy-nine and nineteen eighty-four based on a competition-winning design by British architect James Stirling.
