Schillerplatz

Schillerplatz is a cobblestone square in the heart of Stuttgart, immediately recognizable by the bronze statue of the poet Friedrich Schiller that stands at its center. This monument, unveiled in eighteen thirty-nine, was the first of its kind in Germany. It was cast from cannons in Munich after the local Stuttgarter Liederkranz singing society spent years collecting donations to honor the poet, who spent his formative years in the city before fleeing due to conflicts with the local duke.
