Schillerdenkmal

The Schillerdenkmal is a bronze statue of the poet Friedrich Schiller that occupies the center of Schillerplatz. Standing nearly four meters tall, the figure is cast in bronze and rests upon a granite pedestal. It was designed by the Danish sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen and represents the first major public monument in Germany dedicated to a poet, officially unveiled on the eighth of May, eighteen thirty-nine.
