The Staatstheater Stuttgart

The Staatstheater Stuttgart is marked by the neoclassical columns of its opera house, one of the few German theaters to survive the bombings of the Second World War. Designed by Munich architect Max Littmann and opened in nineteen twelve as the Royal Court Theater, the building complex originally included a second, smaller house for drama. That smaller venue was destroyed during the war and eventually replaced in nineteen sixty-two by a modern structure designed by Hans Volkart.
