Spittlertorturm

historic

The Spittlertorturm is a massive, circular stone tower that anchors the southwestern corner of Nuremberg’s historic city fortifications. Its round, imposing form stands out as one of the four principal gate towers of the medieval defensive wall, constructed to protect the city as it expanded in the fourteenth century. The tower draws its name from the nearby hospital of Saint Elisabeth, which was operated by the German Order and stood just outside the wall.
