St. Lorenz is recognizable by its monumental twin spires, which rise eighty meters above the southern section of Nuremberg’s old town. Construction of the church began around twelve-fifty on the site of an earlier chapel, evolving over two centuries into a masterpiece of German Gothic architecture. Its western facade features a massive nine-meter-wide rose window and an intricately carved portal that highlights the wealth of the medieval citizens who funded the project.
