Frauenkirche

religious

The Frauenkirche is a brick Gothic hall church defined by its ornate, stepped west gable and the mechanical clock installed above its central porch. Built between thirteen fifty-two and thirteen sixty-two on the eastern side of the Hauptmarkt, the church was commissioned by Emperor Charles IV. It was constructed directly over the site of a former synagogue, which had been destroyed during a massacre of the city’s Jewish inhabitants in thirteen forty-nine.
