Fleischbrücke

The Fleischbrücke is a late Renaissance stone arch bridge that spans the Pegnitz River in Nuremberg. Its flattened single arch stretches twenty-seven meters across the water. Built between fifteen ninety-six and fifteen ninety-eight, the bridge replaced earlier wooden structures that repeatedly collapsed during floods. To ensure stability, engineers drove over two thousand wooden piles into the riverbed to support the massive sandstone abutments.
