The Heilig-Geist-Spital is marked by its distinct architectural footprint, with parts of the structure built directly over the Pegnitz River. Founded between thirteen thirty-two and thirteen thirty-nine by the wealthy merchant Konrad Groß, it was the largest private endowment in the Holy Roman Empire for over a century, serving as a hospital and home for the elderly and needy.
