Beim Tiergärtnertor

The Tiergärtnertor is a massive, square gate tower that stands as part of Nuremberg’s medieval fortifications. You can identify it by its distinct, tall, ogival-shaped design and the stone masonry that marks the northwestern boundary of the old city. Built in the late thirteenth century, the tower once controlled the main transit routes heading toward Bamberg and Thuringia, named for a game reserve that belonged to the local burgrave.
