Schöner Brunnen

The Schöner Brunnen, or Beautiful Fountain, rises nineteen meters above the Hauptmarkt like a delicate, gilded church spire crafted from stone. Built between thirteen eighty-five and thirteen ninety-six, this ornate structure holds forty colorful figures, including philosophers, evangelists, and electoral princes, all representing the medieval worldview of the Holy Roman Empire. The fountain is a nineteenth-century replica made of limestone, while the original sandstone sections are preserved in the Germanisches Nationalmuseum.
