The Hausbrauerei Zum Schlüssel on Bolkerstraße is marked by a prominent golden key emblem, a symbol rooted in the medieval tradition of depositing city gate keys in local taverns. This brewery has operated on this site since eighteen fifty, when it was established as both a bakery and a brewery. At the time, bakers were the only tradespeople permitted to work with yeast to produce what was then called liquid bread.
