Tulsi Ghat, (Varanasi)

Tulsi Ghat is recognizable by its association with the sixteenth-century poet-saint Tulsidas, who lived and worked here while composing the epic Ramcharitmanas. Originally known as Lolark Ghat, this site is built into the riverfront and contains a small, private temple where relics of the poet—including his wooden slippers, his seat, and a stone idol of Lord Hanuman—are still kept by the family of the late Mahant Veer Bhadra Mishra.
