Shivala Ghat, (Varanasi)

Shivala Ghat is defined by its long stretches of stone steps and the looming presence of historic riverside palaces. King Balwant Singh of Benares transformed the riverfront into a permanent structure in seventeen sixty-seven, and his successor, Chet Singh, expanded the site while constructing his own fortress nearby. The area became a retreat for royalty and pilgrims, drawing residents from across India who built monasteries and temples along the water.
