Prachin Hanuman Ghat

Prachin Hanuman Ghat sits along the Ganges riverfront as a series of stone-stepped terraces that are notably cleaner and more concrete than many of their neighbors. Historically known as Rameshvara Ghat, the site was renamed after the monkey deity Hanuman, who is said to have appeared here to the poet-saint Tulsidas. In eighteen twenty-five, Mahant Hariharanath transformed the slope into a permanent stone structure, securing the ghat’s place in the city’s architectural and spiritual landscape.
