Klostergaten

Klostergaten sits on the Nordnes peninsula, a stretch of ground that carries the name of the monastery that once defined this height. You can identify the street by its proximity to the open square called Klosteret, where the medieval Munkeliv Abbey stood until its final destruction by fire in fifteen thirty-six. While no stone walls remain visible today, the name of the street and the square preserves the memory of a site founded around eleven ten by King Øystein Magnusson.
