Murhvelvingen

Murhvelvingen, often called Muren, is one of the oldest secular buildings in central Bergen. You can identify it by the stone masonry and the architectural details that stand out from the surrounding wooden structures. It was built in the sixteenth century, specifically following a devastating city fire in fifteen sixty-one. The structure was commissioned by Erik Ottesen Rosenkrantz, who was then the governor of Bergenhus Fortress, to serve as both his private residence and a formal space for hosting official events.
