The MAC in Belfast is marked by a distinctive glazed tower that sits atop a volcanic stone façade, rising above the surrounding rooftops of the Cathedral Quarter. Opened in two thousand twelve, this arts venue was designed by the local architectural firm Hall McKnight following an international competition. The building occupies a tight, trapezium-shaped plot between existing structures, which gives it a narrow, compressed footprint.
