The Original Sokos Hotel Viru rises above the city center as Estonia’s first high-rise building, a tower that opened its doors on June fourteenth, nineteen seventy-two. Designed and built by Finnish companies after a construction fire delayed the original project, the structure was intended to host international visitors during the Soviet era. Its exterior remains a fixture of the Tallinn skyline, distinct for its height and its proximity to the medieval stone gates of the Old Town.
