The fifteenth arrondissement was once an industrial powerhouse, dominated by large-scale manufacturing that defined the character of the neighborhood. Among the companies that defined this era was the Société pour l’Application Générale de l’Electricité et de la Mécanique, known as Sagem. Founded by Marcel Môme in nineteen twenty-four, the firm began by producing specialized tools for the tire maker Michelin before shifting its focus toward complex electronics and defense systems.
