The ruins of Longchamp Abbey are marked today by a stone windmill and a singular tower rising among the trees of the Bois de Boulogne. Founded in twelve fifty-five by Isabelle of France, sister of King Louis the Ninth, this royal convent once served as a place of prayer and retreat for the Clarist order. Isabelle, though she refused marriage to remain a virgin, never formally joined the community but lived in a house within the monastery walls.
