Church of Saint-Francois de Sales, Paris

The parish of Saint-François-de-Sales is defined by its unusual configuration of two distinct churches linked by a long interior corridor. You can tell the buildings apart by their eras, as the older church, consecrated in eighteen seventy-three, was constructed when this part of the seventeenth arrondissement was still countryside dotted with fields. Designed by architect Édouard Delebarre Debay in a sober neo-Romanesque style, it was meant to serve a quiet corner of the city that transformed rapidly following the urbanization projects of the eighteen sixties.
