St. Jakobskirche, or the Church of Saint James, is a Gothic stone structure characterized by its connection to the Teutonic Order, which held the site for centuries. Founded on February twentieth, twelve hundred nine, by Holy Roman Emperor Otto the Fourth, it began as a small Romanesque chapel before being replaced by the current Gothic building roughly eighty years later.
