Johannes Hevelius monument

The bronze statue of Johannes Hevelius sits near the Old Town Hall, depicting the seventeenth-century astronomer gazing toward the sky. Hevelius was a prominent resident of Gdańsk who balanced two distinct lives: he served as a local politician and successful brewer, yet his scientific passion led him to establish one of Europe’s most advanced observatories on the roof of his own home.
