St Malachy's College is a red-brick grammar school on the Antrim Road, recognized by the three sides of its central quadrangle and the tree-lined avenue that leads toward its entrance. Founded in eighteen thirty-three on the feast day of Saint Malachy, it is the oldest Catholic post-primary school in Ulster. When it first opened, the college began with only eight boarders and ten day pupils on a site known as Vicinage House.
