Classic Grand

The Classic Grand on Jamaica Street occupies a structure that began as a nineteenth-century warehouse. In nineteen fifteen, architect William B. Whitie converted the upper floors into the Grand Central Picture House. This cinema featured a horseshoe-shaped balcony and, for decades, served as a prominent local entertainment destination. It has been a category B-listed building since nineteen seventy, a status granted to protect its remaining art deco features after it transitioned through various names, including the Cannon-Grand and the Curzon.
