El Cid Statue

In front of the California Palace of the Legion of Honor, a twenty-three-foot bronze equestrian statue depicts the medieval Castilian knight Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar, widely known as El Cid. The figure sits atop his horse, Babieca, holding a spear and a shield while his flag is raised high. This work is a nineteen twenty-seven casting of an original nineteen twenty-one sculpture by the American artist Anna Vaughn Hyatt Huntington.
