The plaza in front of the Legion of Honor holds a prominent fountain that marks the official western terminus of the Lincoln Highway. Dedicated on Armistice Day in nineteen twenty-four, this museum was a gift to San Francisco from Alma de Bretteville Spreckels, created to honor the three thousand six hundred Californian soldiers who died during the First World War.
