Bengali Tola Inter College stands as one of the oldest educational institutions in Varanasi, tracing its origins to an English primary school inaugurated in eighteen fifty-four. Founded by Kesab Chandra Mitra on the festival of Vasant Panchami, the school was created to address a specific gap in the city’s academic landscape. While local institutions at the time focused on Sanskrit, Hindi, and Urdu, this school introduced formal instruction in English and Bengali to the local community.
