Northumberland Place

Northumberland Place is a narrow, paved thoroughfare defined by its eighteen-century buildings and a collection of independent shops. The lane stands on the site of a medieval close known as Marchant's Court, which appeared on a map of the city as early as sixteen ninety-four. The current buildings, constructed of limestone ashlar, occupy land that was once owned by the Duke of Northumberland.
