The Corridor Bath

The Corridor is defined by a glass-and-iron roof stretching above a narrow walkway, flanked by shop fronts that date back nearly two centuries. Opened in eighteen twenty-five and designed by the local architect Henry Goodridge, this retail arcade was modeled after the fashion for covered shopping galleries that had recently emerged in Paris and London. A Doric colonnade with marble columns marks the High Street entrance, while a musicians' gallery featuring gilt lions' heads and garlands sits at the center of the arcade.
