Barley Hall

Barley Hall is a medieval townhouse easily identified by its white walls and dark, exposed timber framing. Tucked into a narrow alleyway called Coffee Yard, it was built around thirteen sixty to house the visiting priors of Nostell Priory when they traveled to York on church business. By the fifteen hundreds, the building was leased to private tenants, including William Snawsell, a wealthy goldsmith who served as the Lord Mayor of York.
