The Jorvik Viking Centre is a subterranean museum built directly upon the site of the Coppergate excavations, where archaeologists from the York Archaeological Trust unearthed a preserved Viking-age settlement in the late nineteen seventies. The site is identified by its location in the outdoor square of the Coppergate Shopping Centre and its immersive experience, which transports visitors back to the tenth century.
