The National Railway Museum in York is distinguished by the massive, curved Great Hall, a structure that once functioned as the North Motive Power Depot. Opened to the public in nineteen seventy-five, this space occupies a former railway engine shed that featured four massive turntables for steam locomotives. Today, it houses over one hundred locomotives and hundreds of railway vehicles, ranging from early nineteenth-century wagonway cars to modern high-speed designs.
