The Grand Assembly Rooms

The Grand Assembly Rooms on Blake Street announce themselves with a prominent Neo-Classical façade, featuring a distinct segmental portico that sets the building apart from the surrounding streetscape. Designed by Richard Boyle, the third Earl of Burlington, this structure opened in August seventeen thirty-two to provide a dedicated social hub for York’s elite. During the Georgian era, this was the primary venue for high-society balls, card games, and concerts, particularly during the city’s famed race weeks.
