Castlegate House is a Grade I listed Georgian townhouse identifiable by its five-bay facade of orange-brown brick, set behind attached railings. It was completed in seventeen sixty-three for Peter Johnson, who served as the Recorder of York, the city’s leading judge. The architect, John Carr, designed the home on land that once belonged to a Franciscan priory.
