Bedern Hall

Bedern Hall stands as a low, rectangular medieval building, recognizable by its steeply pitched pantile roof and a timber-framed wall that contrasts with its stone masonry. Built in the thirteen-nineties, it served as the refectory for the Vicars Choral of York Minster, a community of thirty-six clergy members who sang services at the cathedral. In that era, a private bridge connected their college here to the Minster, allowing the vicars to travel between the two without encountering the public.
