Hole In The Wall

The Hole in the Wall is a red-brick pub situated on High Petergate, positioned just inside the ancient city walls near Bootham Bar. Built in the eighteenth century, the building originally operated under the name The Board Inn. Its current name dates to eighteen sixteen, when workers excavating the cellar uncovered a hidden passage leading to a damp, grim space containing chains and manacles.
