The Roman Bath on Saint Sampson's Square is identified by its Tudor Revival exterior with applied half-timbering. While it functions as a public house, its most distinct feature sits in the basement: the excavated remains of a first-century Roman bath house. These ruins were unearthed between nineteen twenty-nine and nineteen thirty-one during renovations to the building, which was known at the time as the Mail Coach Inn.
