Ye Olde Starre Inne is identified by a large wooden sign that hangs directly across Stonegate, the ancient street where it sits. This sign has spanned the narrow roadway since seventeen thirty-three, serving as a directional marker to lead visitors down a small passage, or snickelway, toward the pub’s hidden courtyard. While the timber-framed building holds a license dating back to sixteen forty-four, the structure incorporates a tenth-century cellar that predates the establishment itself.
