York Minster rises above the city with a central tower that reaches two hundred and thirty-five feet into the air. This cathedral, formally known as the Cathedral and Metropolitical Church of Saint Peter in York, occupies the site of a seventh-century wooden church where King Edwin of Northumbria was baptized. Construction of the current Gothic structure spanned two hundred and fifty years, beginning around twelve-twenty and concluding with its consecration in fourteen-seventy-two.
